About

Hello. Listen to this audio clip to hear my “About” instead of reading. The information is relatively the same with some improv additions.

My name is Kimberly Wagner and I have been teaching English Literature and Language in Ontario, Canada for 15 years. I am qualified to teach with an Ontario Bachelor of Education at the Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels. I have my Specialist in English as well as Intermediate History qualifications.

I have taught all high school grades and levels of English in the Ontario public school system. I currently teach at Timmins High and Vocational School in Timmins, Ontario.

I would like to give my 21st century perspective on the teaching of English/Language Arts! As an extension of my interest in how to meaningfully incorporate technology in my classroom teaching, I strive to develop my own learning in this area. As a result of my self-learning, attending two technology conferences recently (ABEL and OSSTF Tools & Toys), and participating in my school board’s technology pilot projects, I decided to apply for a Masters of Educational Technology program at UBC. I was accepted in June 2011 and began the program in September 2011. I plan to finish the program in 2014 as I will continue part-time while remaining employed full time at DSB ONE.

I have a passion for cross-country skiing that started eight years ago, so in addition to refining my teaching and language skills, I love to learn how to ski better as well. During the winter, I participate in some ski races in an effort to stay fit and challenge myself to get younger as I get older. I also enjoy hiking, biking, inline-skating and swimming, but  I tolerate running because it’s effective!

My husband is a mental health worker and often does informational reading within this subject area to refine his practice in the field of mental health. He and our three children are ALL avid readers — feel like we did something right! — but we all have different reading interests.

Me and Buffy

Me and Buffy

I have a ‘puppy’ named Buffy who was born August 22, 2009. Her mother is half chocolate lab and dalmatian, and her father is half black lab and collie. I think it must be border collie because of her colouring and smaller size than expected. She is extremely energetic and enthusiastic about the smallest detail in life! Her positive attitude makes her a great creature to be around; however, she is still in that, “I could be destructive at any time phase.” The energy coursing through this dog is amazing. She will come on a 2+ hour run and still want more! Buffy was truly built to run. She’s no vampire slayer though! When in the company of other dogs, she’s completely submissive and there was a time when she was scared of her own shadow. Since we’ve had her from seven weeks old, she is extremely attached to us (especially me)! I’m her mommy.

Here’s an 11 second video of Buffy being naughty (but it’s amusing too). Also, notice the hole in my cushion floor…she did that too!!

I am a participant in the Ning Social network English Companion where I communicate with over 15000 English teachers from around the world about the teaching of English and Language Arts. It’s a free site that anyone can join. If you are an English teacher, I highly recommend that you join this site. It’s the absolute best social network for English teachers!
